Phonex

Phonex is inspired by utility informational markings, specifically telephone pole identification strips. It features contrast between straight lines and sharp corners with pinched tapers and subtle curves. Designed in mind for use in signage oriented applications, particularly warning style signs, it also has the potential for text setting at a smaller size. More weights and widths are currently being developed to offer a broader range of styles and complete the family.

Jene is a graphic designer with a strong passion for typography and letterforms of all sorts. He has a deep appreciation for analog design methods in our highly digital and technological world and is inspired by cultural nostalgia of bygone eras, especially hand painted signage and vintage advertising ephemera. Originally from the Philadelphia area, Jene also lived briefly in Denver before completing a full westward migration to Oakland. The near perfect Bay Area weather gives him no plans on moving elsewhere anytime soon. In his spare time he enjoys photography, cooking, trying new sour beers, collecting sneakers, travel, practicing yoga and spending time outdoors. You can find Jene at @yellowed_sole on Instagram.
